Footfalls on Elrond
The Time of Humans
Once the gods of Humans discovered Elrond they wasted no time in populating its lands with their followers. Possessing a dedication and versatility that most of the existing races lacked, the Human race grew to dominate most of the world. Being the most willing of the races to throw their loyalty to whatever god would grant them their desires, the Humans attracted other gods to Elrond and this in turn increased their power in the realms. The Humans dabbled with powerful forbidden arts, tested the limits for exploiting the laws of nature, space and time, and were near unstoppable in their willingness to control and overwhelm- balance was not the desire of most humans and human kingdoms expanded all over the world forcing many of the other races to make way. One of the Humans’ most powerful wizards came in this time, Gorwyther, and his dark stronghold, “Shadowkeep,” still stands to this day.
Their great expansion was not the only way that the humans affected Elrond. Their magic-dabbling had also created a phenomenon called “Nexus Points.” In an effort to spread their doctrine and increase their followers many of the gods gave Humans (and some demi-humans) access to forbidden knowledge that could be used to fuse parts of different worlds of the Prime Material Plane. These Nexus Points would allow certain places to exist on several worlds on the Prime Material Plane at once. Though one would enter and exit back into their respective worlds, the places themselves would exist simultaneously in all of the worlds that it was connected to. This allowed gods to spread their doctrine to new followers, visitors to trade knowledge and items, and in some rare instances, allowed individuals and creatures to escape to other worlds (though this is very rare indeed). Some of the places on Elrond that exist at these Nexus Points are the “Lost City of Cynidicea,” parts of the land of Zakhara (including the great city of “Golden Huzuz”), the “Ruins of Myth Drannor,” and the great Drow city of “Menzoberranzan.”
